If you’re hosting Christmas this year, it’s time to get organised! With just five weeks to go until the big day, new research from AEG reveals what makes Brits crack under pressure in the kitchen at Christmas time, and how we can learn from our own mistakes.
Christmas Dinner Disasters Revealed
Research reveals that 76% of home cooks experience at least one major mishap during Christmas dinner prep.
Christmas Dinner Disasters:
- Overcooked or dry turkey (21%)
- Something spilled or dropped (17%)
- A dish that no one liked (15%)
- Food was served cold (14%)
- Burned or charred dishes (13%)
Plus, over half (53%) of hosts feel significant stress in the lead-up to hosting Christmas, with women (46%) feeling the heat more than men (34%).
What stresses us out the most when it comes to cooking at Christmas:
- Balancing cooking times for multiple dishes (22%)
- Limited oven or hob space (15%)
- Pressure to make everything 'perfect' (13%)
- Managing a tight budget for the meal and gifts (11%)
- Cleaning up before and after cooking (8%)
It also seems that not using appliances correctly is adding to the stress.
Over half of those polled (55%) find it hard to manage fridge space when cooking for a large group, 52% wish they had more space in the oven when juggling lots of dishes and 22% struggle to control the fridge temperature when it's so full! A further 50% often lose track of cooking times for different dishes in the busy Christmas rush.
