Bake Smart with AEG

With the Great British Bake Off gracing the nation’s screens this month, inspired Brits are set to take to their kitchens and create their own showstoppers and signature dishes.

But when it comes to cooking, how well do Brits really know their appliances?

Brits Baking Habits Revealed

New research from AEG has found that despite 56% of Brits owning their oven for more than three years, a staggering 75% admit that there are settings they have no idea how to use. Women seem to be more confident however, with 18% claiming to know what all the settings do, compared to just 6% of men.

So, while shows like the Bake Off might offer us new inspiration week on week, why aren’t we maximising our capabilities in the kitchen?

So, what’s stopping us from reaching our full potential in the kitchen? Well, it turns out, a lot!

When it comes to cooking up a storm or whipping up a bake for a special occasion, 45% are put off by the pressure to make something delicious, 29% by the thought of the big clean up, and 24% by the thought of a dirty kitchen along the way.

It seems that other people’s kitchen habits are also standing in our way.

It seems that other people’s kitchen habits are also standing in our way.

ICK! What puts Brits off in the kitchen:

  • Dish dashing (someone leaving you with all the washing up) (17.5%)
  • Stubborn stains (15.5%)
  • Back seat cooking (someone else interfering with your dish) (11.5%)
  • Messy countertops (9.6%)
  • Kitchen lingo (soggy bottom anyone?) (8.3%)
  • Opening the oven door before the timer goes off (5.0%)
