Time For A Fresh Night's Sleep.

A guide on how best to keep your matress fresh.

Why Clean Your Mattress?

Cleaning your mattress is one of the essential household hygiene tasks, protecting against bacteria, viruses, allergens and pests. If you want your mattress to last for up to ten years, regular cleaning will remove dust, dirt and dead skin cells. It will also help keep your bed looking its best and smelling fresh.

How often should you clean your mattress?

You should deep clean your mattress at least once every three months. If you want to keep on top of mattress hygiene or suffer from dust mite allergies, why not give your mattress a quick vacuum whenever you change the bedding?

Step By Step Guide To Mattress Cleaning

  1. Remove dust from your mattress using the upholstery tool on your vacuum. Pressing down firmly, move along the top and sides of the mattress, then use the crevice tool to get into the quilted areas. Most AEG vacuum cleaners come with various fabric and upholstery attachments designed to clean mattresses and other soft furnishings.

  1. Flip the mattress over and repeat the process on the other side.

  1. If you have a clothes steamer, you can use this to give your mattress a deeper clean. Steam will help kill dust mites and make it smell fresh. Vacuum the mattress again after steaming to remove any dust mites.

  1. Leave the mattress to air for a few hours before re-making the bed with clean bedding. Investing in a mattress protector can help prevent sweat and dust from getting into your mattress.

How To Remove Mattress Stains

Mattress stains are common and can be caused by sweat, pets and food spillages, among other things. Always treat stains as soon as possible and check the mattress label before applying any products to ensure they won't damage the fabric.

Depending on how severe the stain is, different products may be required, but the method is the same:

  1. Dab the stain with cold water and diluted washing up liquid. Tougher stains can be treated with bicarbonate of soda and cold water.

  1. Leave the solution on the stain for around 30 minutes. Dab with more cold water and leave to air dry.

  1. If the stain still hasn't lifted after the mattress has dried, you could try a specialist upholstery cleaner. Only use these after checking your mattress care label and use a small, diluted quantity.
